In this episode we hear the first hand accounts of youth incarceration by two early FIPPP performers: Al Sasser and Pastor Ronnie Muniz.
We start with Al Sasser, who was first incarcerated when he was 12 years old. At 19, he received a 15 year-to-life prison sentence for murder while incarcerated. His direction shifted when he decided to pursue an education, while in prison. He was released after serving 31 years. Al is in the 2022 documentary, “The 50” about the first men to become certified counselors while incarcerated. Today he works inside prisons helping other incarcerated men recover and transition back into their communities.
Pastor Ronnie Muniz was born in the juvenile justice system and was involved in gangs. He is founder and CEO of Saved By Grace Reentry Ministries, which helps formerly incarcerated youth and adults with services for housing, employment and recovery.
A bold, nine-part series amplifying the voices and artistry of people directly impacted by the criminal punishment system. Through performance, FIPPP centers the brilliance, struggle, and imagination of formerly incarcerated community members. Each episode highlights the realities of incarceration and the power of telling one’s own story.
