What it is Like to Be An American Citizen Targeted by the Most Powerful Person in the World, Who is Accusing You of Treason For Speaking the Truth
We begin with an American citizen who has been targeted by the most powerful person in the country and the world, a lone individual accused of treason by the most treasonous president the country has ever had. As Donald Trump goes through contortion after contortion trying to pretend that he wants to end the Ukraine war to stop the killing, it is painfully obvious that he is not on America’s side but is and always has been on Putin’s side. Now after yesterday’s hour and a quarter conversation with his handler Putin, the charade is coming to the crunch, with even Republican senators opposing Trump’s sellout as it becomes clear that Trump is trying to end the war on Putin’s terms, while threatening to walk away if he can’t get a deal that no Ukrainian would sign. Given that this sick man projects his guilt onto those he accuses of committing the crimes he continues to get away with, it is no surprise that Trump has singled out someone he accuses of treason and who saw him operate, up close and in person in the Oval Office during his first term. Most of all what Trump desperately wants to keep secret from the American people is what he is actually like in person and on the job, if you could call it that. Trump is the most ignorant, incompetent, cruel, spiteful, petty, and vengeful person ever to be even near the highest office he holds, and just as the curtain was pulled back to reveal the pitiful, quivering Wizard of Oz, our next guest was the first to pull back the curtain on the Oval Office and reveal to the American people the unhinged fool they had elected to his first term let alone the second. Joining us is Miles Taylor, a national security expert who works in Washington, D.C. He served as chief of staff for Kirstjen Nielsen, the former secretary of the Department of Homeland Security under the Trump administration, where he published an “Anonymous” essay in The New York Times, blowing the whistle on presidential misconduct. He later published the #1 national bestseller A Warning, revealed himself to be the author, and launched a campaign of ex-officials to oppose Donald Trump’s reelection. His latest book is Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump. On April 9, President Trump signed an Executive Order targeting Miles Taylor for criticizing him during his first term.
Trump’s America: The United States of Cruelty
Then, we examine Trump’s America, the United States of Cruelty, following Bernie Sanders’ description of Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill as “beyond cruel.” Senator Sanders pointed out that punishing the poor by taking away healthcare and food stamps to reward the richest Americans with tax cuts “is what Trumpism is about: For the superior people – the Elon Musks in the world, the people who are successful — we’re gonna make them more successful. If you’re a working stiff, you’re entitled to nothing.” Joining us is John Nichols, The Nation magazine’s Washington correspondent. His books include The Fight for the Soul of the Democratic Party: The Enduring Legacy of Henry Wallace’s Anti-Fascist, Anti-Racist Politics and, most recently, Coronavirus Criminals and Pandemic Profiteers: Accountability for Those Who Caused the Crisis. We discuss his latest article at The Nation, “Joni Ernst’s Cruelty and Sarcasm Might Cost Her Her Job.”
