APEX Express-3.11.21- Women, Land And Livelihoods

Women, Land & Livelihoods: A Critical Feminist Perspective

This International Women’s Herstory Month, we begin APEX Express’ month-long spotlight on women’s rights with an episode about land, livelihood, and education that resonates and echoes with the voices of farmers protesting in India. APEX Express producer Anuj Vaidya invites Fawzia Afzal-Khan to share stories about women farmers leading the 2018 uprising in Okara, on the other side of the Punjabi border in Pakistan, while Pramila Venkateswaran shares stories about living at the border of the Shinnecock Nation in New York, where women elders of the tribe are leading a lawsuit against the state. Through transnational connections that center stories of women and land, the conversation examines historic inaccess to land ownership, be it here on native/indigenous lands in North America, or in the global south, in India or Pakistan!

Tune into this discussion between artists, activists, and feminist co-conspirators Fawzia Afzal-Khan and Pramila Venkateswaran.
