Marine Parks: The Capture of Dolphins and Whales

In September, the dolphin hunting season opens in Taiji, Japan. The location of the largest slaughter of dolphins in the world, this small Japanese fishing village became infamous in 2009 with the release of the Oscar-winning documentary film, The Cove. Join us for this special conversation with The Cove’s star, Ric O’Barry, and Mark Palmer from the International Marine Mammal Project. International attention and pressure since the film’s release has led to a sharp decline in the number of dolphins killed for meat. But each year hundreds of dolphins are taken from their families and sold to amusement parks and swim with dolphin programs around the globe.
