This week’s show is part of a two-part special on toxics in consumer products. On September 7, we looked at Safer Consumer Products regulations proposed by the Department of Toxic Substances Control, as part of the California Green Chemistry Initiative. Today, we will look at health and environmental risks of toxic ingredients in personal care products specifically, such as antibacterial soaps, hair dyes, and hair straighteners, and what individuals and organizations are doing to address the risks now.

Guests: Ogonnaya Newman, Director of Environmental Health, West Harlem Environmental Action; Lisa Olsen, Water Quality Specialist, US Geological Survey’s California Water Science Center; Anne Kreamer, Author, Going Gray

Host: Adrienne Fitch-Frankel
