What has caused the explosion of women in  prison, how the women and transgenders who are forced into these prisons are treated, and how, as feminists we can address violence against women and transgenders without resorting to the police and incarceration. We interview  three women anti-prison activists who will be speaking at the upcoming Critical Resistance 10th Anniversary Conference which will be held at Laney college on September 26th – the 28th. Julia Sudbury is a founding member of Critical Resistance, an Ethnic Studies professor at Mills College, and author of "Global Lockdown: Race, Gender, and the Prison Industrial Complex", Vanessa Huang is an artist, community organizer, and campaign director for Justice Now and Morning Star Gali is a local Native American Activist who was recently elected  Executive Chair of the Board of Directors of Intertribal Friendship House, the oldest urban Indian community center in the nation.

You can get more information about the conference at criticalresistance.org. That’s Monday 1- 2pm on 94.1 FM or anytime on the web at www.kpfa.org/womensmagazine.
