La Raza Chronicles – February 19, 2008

Chuy Varela hosts a Musical Colors special on the late, great Mexican superstar Lydia Mendoza.  Mendoza known as "the lark of the border" was thrilling audiences since the 1930’s with her gorgeous voice and passionate songs that touched everyone from the working class to the wealthy.  Chuy will be sharing an interview that he conducted with Lydia several years ago as well as featuring her music.  He will be joined by ethno-musicologist, record label chief and former KPFA radio host Chris Strachwitz.
