Terra Verde – Pesticide Exposures in Farmworker Communities and the Legacy of Cesar Chavez

Monday of this week was Cesar Chavez Day.  Cesar Chavez was an iconic civil and labor rights leader and founder of the United Farm Workers union.  In the 1980’s, Chavez led a high-profile boycott of table grapes, to protest the risk pesticides pose to farmworkers, rural communities, and consumers.  Today, in honor of Cesar Chavez, we will talk about the latest efforts to protect farmworkers, their families, and consumers of agricultural products from environmental health risks associated with pesticides.  Guests:  Margaret Reeves, Senior Scientist and Program Coordinator for Environmental Health and Worker’s Rights at Pesticide Action Network North America, based in Oakland; Luis Medellin, Civic Engagement Specialist with El Quinto Sol de America in Lindsay California; Virginia Ruiz, Director of Occupational and Environmental Health with Farm Worker Justice in Washington, DC
