Gaslighting: Weed #2 (FV Ep. 20)

Are you concerned about gaslighting? It’s a massively common technique of psychological warfare. Popular definitions of gaslighting regularly center around one conniving person manipulating people around them. So let’s try a different definition of gaslighting here. Because that common framework is hyper-individualistic. And it disproportionately focuses on intent. And doesn’t include a nuanced understanding of power (dynamics), which are diffuse and multidirectional. Or en(cult)uration. Indeed, the colonial education system and the corporate media in the U.S. are sites of gaslighting. You know that this series is about decolonial discernment. Pulling weeds & planting seeds in the service of collective liberation. So let’s keep on with our weed identification & pulling, shall we? That means we need 2 talk about how gaslighting keeps people confused, complicit, & counter-revolutionary in the face of this deadly matrix. In an omnicide where wisdom isn’t trending, the need for inquiry into the impacts of gaslighting on political awakening becomes all the more apparent. Let’s diminish the impact of political gaslighting and instead ground in our self-determined perceptions.
