The History of Tear Gas

We are in conversation with Anna Feigenbaum to talk about the history of Tear Gas and its development as a chemical weapon during WWI, and its reclassification as a crowd control agent pushed by chemical companies and law enforcement agencies. Today, Tear Gas is being used against people protesting for their rights in many cities, including in the streets of San Juan of Puerto Rico on May Day.

Anna Feigenbaum is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Media and Communications at Bournemouth University. Her latest book is Tear Gas: From the Battlefields of WWI to the Streets of Today.
