Interview with Sharon Elliot

Sharon Elliott is an author, international poet, and initiated Lukumi and Ifa priest residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dreams of freedom, peace and social justice filled her head and heart from a young age. She has been a writer and poet activist over several decades, beginning in the feminist, anti-war movements in the 1960s and spending time in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua and Ecuador during the 70s.

Sharon’s poetry and writings focus on multicultural women’s issues and ancestral discovery, and have been translated into four languages. Her poem “Border Crossing” appears in the anthology entitled Poetry of Resistance: Voices for Social Justice, Francisco X. Alarcón and Odilia Galván Rodriguez, eds.

She says: I pay homage to my ancestors, and to the Orisha, for their
guidance and love.  Maferefun Yemaya.  Ashe-o.
