Then, Ruchelle Magee, the longest held political prisoner in the United States was freed just this week after 67 years of imprisonment due to unceasing community organizing as well as some shifts in “compassionate release” policies in the state of California. Joining us to discuss is Camilo Pérez-Bustillo, the executive director of the Bay Area chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and co-chair of the NLG’s Task Force on the Americas, as well as a former professor of human rights. We are also joined by Harold Welton, a member of the Coalition to Free Ruchell Magee and has been fighting for the liberation of Black people and all people for many decades, since being a member of the Southern California chapters of SNCC and then the Black Panther Party.
