Best of KPFA, May 3rd – 9th

With KPFA about to launch into our Spring fund drive and our reporters knee-deep in coverage of the coronavirus crisis, we want to go back and highlight some of the awesome shows that you may have missed last week.

First up, Rising Up With Sonali has been bringing us some hard hitting interviews as well as great coverage of the COVID-19 crisis as the Trump administration and Wall Street push the US to “reopen.” Some highlights include an interview with fired Amazon protest organizer Chris Smalls, a report on the COVID-19 crisis on the Navajo Nation, and critical views on the new Michael Moore documentary.

The fine folks at Hard Knock Radio bring us an in-depth interview on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on working-class black and brown communities in New York’s five boroughs.

Letters and Politics produced some amazing historical content, covering the political history of the US Civil War and a look at the life of Henry David Thoreau.

As always, UpFront has some critically engaging content, including a recent interview with an Oakland nurse at Highland Hospital who is fighting for his job back after protesting lack of PPE and a look at the COVID-19 crisis inside the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, CA.
