  1. Wow! Thank you for the superb production of the Phil Elwood documentary just aired! I am the 58 year-old daughter of a classical musician, my father, who enjoyed and honored the history and artistry of jazz. Despite his Juliard training on clarinet, he did not have the skill to depart from classical structure in his own playing, to the fluidity and abstract, playful and seductive qualities of jazz. But oh how he longed to! I thought of him throughout the documentary and found myself wishing he were here to listen with me and then discuss!

For me personally, this program gave insights into the dedication and passion of Elwood, and a glimpse of the scope of his work. I also gained knowledge of the history of jazz via geographics as expressed by several of the greats. I particularly loved the recording of Elwood’s piece with Louis Armstrong. Elwood’s commentaries before each segment of the interview were masterful in their clarity and in the transparency of his own feelings about his experience with Mr. Armstrong.

Thank you again for the tenderness of shared efforts that contributed to the Elwood Documentary, and particularly to the fine work of Kevin Cartwright. I hope you will air this program several times for the benefits of your breadth of listeners!
