Joanna Manqueros

Joanna was raised by a single mother in Berkeley. She plays harmonium in an ensemble, and is a student of Appalachian Dulcimer. In 2022 she became a member of the Recording Academy in 2022, the organization which hosts the Grammys. In 2022, she served as Music Director for a documentary film about the Tibetan artist Tsering Sherpa. In 2020, she lived in an ashram in India, studying devotional chants. Joanna has hosted Music of the World since 2005, and created a monthly live studio concert series in 2017.  She is bilingual in Spanish and English.

 

 

Tawfic Halaby

Tawfic Halaby is a Palestinian-American singer who was born in Kuwait and raised in Saudi Arabia. He relocated to the Bay Area after college, where he found a home in the KPFA community and the local music scene. He has performed with various Bay Area music groups including World Harmony Chorus, The Lost American Jazzbook, WorldSong, and Aswat Arab Music Ensemble. He produced live performances for KPFA’s Music of the World and hosted occasionally, before becoming permanent co-host of the show.
