“Casa Babylon,” is an eclectic music program which aims to explore the intersections of contemporary music from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. The inspiration for the program is drawn from Mano Negra’s seminal 1994 recording titled “Casa Babylon,” in which the Spanish and French band fused a variety of world music elements with rock and punk aesthetics.

Audiences will have an opportunity to discover and explore Jazz, Electronic music, Mexican traditional folk music, Hip-Hop, Sambas, Rock , and other Afro-Latino influenced musical genres from the American continent as well as sounds from the Iberian Peninsula.

Arroyo’s love for music was influenced by the diverse cultural sounds of his neighborhood of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles where he often heard local Norteño and mariachi street bands as well as the sounds of Chicana/o punk, oldies and rock. Arroyo got his start in radio at KCPR 91.3 FM, Cal Poly’s College Radio station. He also hosted an international music program at KCBX 90.1 FM, an NPR affiliate for two decades. While at KCBX, Arroyo was a contributor to Audio Excursions, a weekly audio magazine about the Central Coast. He was also a talent buyer for the Live Oak Music Festival. He now resides in Oakland, with his family and his goldendoodle, Chispa.
