Erik Larson discusses his new book of narrative non-fiction, “The Splendid and the Vile,” about Churchill’s first year in office, May 1940-May 1941, which coincided almost to the day with the beginning and the end of the Blitz, the German air campaign that bombed English cities on an almost nightly basis.
