0:08 – Zoltán Grossman discusses political borders in Eastern Europe and the ethnic and linguistic geographies that have impacted the war in Ukraine, including the rise of conservative ethnic nationalism in the region. Zoltan is a geographer and professor of Indigenous Studies and interethnic relations, and has Jewish-Catholic family roots in Hungary. He studies the intersections of ethnic nationhood, militarism, and natural resources. When the Eastern Bloc broke up in the early ‘90s, he was a professional cartographer, making maps of the how the borders were changing.
