Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing (PTSS) is a 2005 book resulting from years of research by Dr Joy DeGruy and describes a set of behaviors and beliefs related to multi-generational trauma experienced by African Americans that include undiagnosed and untreated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in enslaved Africans and their descendants. Dr. DeGruy spoke about Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome at the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2013.

It addresses the school to prison pipeline, the need for comprehensive criminal justice reform and the importance of healing and restorative practices.
