0:08 – Legalization of marijuana for medical use or adult recreational use is growing in a number of states and being legal for recreational use in California in 2018. The holiday known as “4/20” which takes place on April 20 has become an international counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis. Many events associated with 4/20 have a political nature to them, advocating the legalization of cannabis. For more on 4/20 and an update on the state of cannabis in the US we’re joined by Ellen Holland (@Hollandbuds), Senior Editor at Cannabis Now Magazine.

0:34 – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault. One unique Bay Area based organization highlighting the issue of sexual assault as it pertains to black women is Beautiful Scars. We’re joined by to Pastor Lyvonne Proverbs (@lyvonnep), preacher, transformational speaker, poet, educator, and creative social entrepreneur. She is the founder of Beautiful Scars (@WereSurthrivors), an online platform for Black women who are also survivors of childhood sexual abuse and/or male sexual violence. By harnessing the power of narrative, she is aiding survivors (and communities, at large) to shift from silence to storytelling in order to eradicate gender-based violence.
