Portrait by Gert Chesi

In what has become an annual alternative Thanksgiving holiday tradition, guest host Avotcja fills in for Derk Richardson and programs a special tribute to Jim Pepper (June 18, 1941 – February 10, 1992), the late Native American saxophonist and composer of the classic “Witchi Tai-To.”

Avotcja’s playlist includes music by Gunther Schuller, The Dining Rooms, the Don Cherry Quintet, the Paul Motian Quintet, the Gordon Lee Quartet, the Marty Cook Group, Nana Simopoulos, Peter Walker, Etho Street, and of course Jim Pepper.
