Guest host Max Pringle speaks with author and gun reform advocate Ryan Busse about the Ahmaud Arbery and Kyle Rittenhouse cases and what they say about the interplay between gun violence, race, vigilantism and criminal justice.
Then, Max speaks with author and historian Scott Farris about his new book “Freedom on Trial: The First Post Civil War Battle Over Civil Rights and Voter Suppression.” Farris writes that aggressive Reconstruction era prosecutions against the Ku Klux Klan would all but dismantle the terror group. But, he argues, that instead of following through on pursuing racial justice, the nation would tragically turn away from ensuring African-American civil rights and that decision would clear the way for generations of Jim Crow laws.
