Sunday Show

Sunday Show – October 6, 2019

For this pledge drive special, guest host Christina Aanestad, looks at “The Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution” a documentary about the unsung hero’s and shero’s who worked to desegregate hospitals in the civil rights era.  Using personal narratives and archival footage, “The Power to Heal” also documents how Medicare was used as a tool to achieve desegregation in the medical field.

In the second hour we continue the theme of race with a film about white anxiety and politics, “The Great White Hoax: Donald Trump and the Politics of Race and Class in America.”  Narrated by anti-racist educator and author, Tim Wise, the documentary poignantly explores how rich white men have historically stoked racial fears to amass power and the white people who have fallen prey to their ploy.  “The Great White Hoax” also looks at the fear of pluralism that is at the core of white anxiety and bigotry in America today.
