While the conflict between Israel and Lebanon intensifies, with Israeli General Herzi Halevi threatening a ground invasion, the Israeli military and its settler proxies continue to target Palestinians in the West Bank.
Rehab Nazzal joins us this morning from Bethlehem. Nazzal is a Palestinian artist and author who lives as a refugee in Toronto and has been documenting her people’s struggle in the West Bank since last year, a few months before the latest conflict broke out between Israel and the Palestinian resistance in October. Her latest book, Driving in Palestine is a research-creation project that explores the politics of mobility that Nazzal encountered firsthand while traversing the occupied West Bank between 2010 and 2020. This photography book consists of 160 black and white photographs, hand-drawn maps and critical essays in Arabic and English by Palestinian and Canadian scholars and artists.
The photographs were all captured from moving vehicles on the roads of the West Bank. They focus on Israel’s architecture of movement restrictions and surveillance structures that proliferate in the West Bank, including the Apartheid Wall, segregation walls surrounding illegal colonies, gates, fences, watchtowers, roadblocks and military checkpoints among other obstacles to freedom of movement.

British authorities have levied terrorism charges against members of the direct action group, Palestine Action, which has been waging a widespread campaign against Elbit Systems in the UK. Max Geller of Palestine Action joins us to respond to these recent allegations of terrorism, which he says are simply an excuse to hold members of his group in indefinite pretrial detention. He notes that previous attempts by the British state to criminalize the actions of Palestine Action activists have failed in court because juries have refused to convict.
