Earthquake and Tsunami Safety w/ Dr. Angie Lux and Dave Snider from NOAA

Bay Area residents were jolted awake this week by a 4.3 magnitude earthquake.  While it may not have been the “Big One” we are expecting, the tremor reminds us to be prepared for when, not if, the expected large earthquake does arrive.  On the show today we speak with Dr. Angie Lux, a seismologist and Project Scientist at the Berkeley Seismology Lab who specializes in earthquake early warning systems, using MEMS sensors and machine learning to improve detection and reduce false signals. We also speak with Dave Snider who is the Tsunami Warning Coordinator at NOAA’s National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, where he leads efforts to ensure accurate detection and clear communication of tsunami threats through NOAA’s systems and emergency alert infrastructure.
