FBI raid on the Uhuru Movement; Plus, Terry Lovett’s son dies in LA jail custody

We start today with the latest in state violence with our weekly State Terror Roundup.

On July 29th, our guest Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party, was targeted in a multi-city FBI raid on several homes and offices of the Uhuru Movement. On September 13th, Yeshitela will return to the Uhuru House in Oakland for the first time since the pandemic, to speak at the “Days of Reparations to African People” event. Yeshitela leads the Uhuru Movement with active branches and black community economic development institutions throughout the US, in Africa and in Europe.

Jalani Lovett died in custody in LA County Jail in 2021 in questionable circumstances. We speak with his mother, Terry Lovett, who has been fighting for justice for her son since his death.

This week’s Artist Resistance in Residence is San Francisco Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin.
