SF Walgreens Security Kills Black Trans Youth; Legal Representation Not Guaranteed to Youth in CPS;

A new report from the National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) finds that kids in the child welfare system aren’t guaranteed legal representation in a dozen states. We are joined by Kim Dvorchak, Executive Director of NACC, and a former defense attorney who represented children in the foster system. Kim joins us from Denver.

Then, last week in San Francisco, a Walgreens security guard shot and killed 24-year-old Black trans-man Banko Brown over allegations of stealing. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has decided against pressing charges in the killing. Brown was a long-time member of the Young Women’s Freedom Center – we’re joined by Julia Arroyo, Co-Executive Director of YMFC.
