What is the legacy of white supremacy and white supremacists in American prisons? How did the Black Power movement spur an evolution in the violence of the US carceral system and its agents. Those are some of the questions asked and answered by our guest today, Brittany Friedman, in her book Carceral Apartheid: How Lies & White Supremacists Run Our Prisons. Friedman is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Southern California and the co-founder of the captive money lab.
This week’s Resistance in Residence Artist is writer, choreographer and composer Robert Moses. His dance company, Robert Moses’ Kin, celebrates its 30th anniversary this weekend, with an all-original program showcasing powerful, genre-bending theatrical dance. The two-act program features a world premiere, delving into Robert Moses’ signature exploration of sensuality, war, race, human rights, and individual freedoms through dynamic choreography and profound emotional depth. In addition to the premiere, the dance company Robert Moses’ Kin presents three original works choreographed by three guest artists. Each piece features a collaboration with both a composer and a writer, resulting in dynamic and multi-disciplined works.
