We start today’s show with a short tribute to Oakland organizer Kenzie Smith, made virally famous as the target of the “BBQ Becky” incident at Lake Merritt in Oakland, but he was also a powerful and committed community member.
Then, we address the police killing of Sonya Massey with Sydney Kesler, a Queer Black Feminist Healing Arts Practitioner and the Rapid response organizer and campaign strategist with the In Our Names Network.

Then, to Los Angeles, where the City is considering funding a private security firm that hires former Israeli soldiers, in the wake of a sale of Palestinian land for zionist settlement construction which took place in June at a Los Angeles synagogue, and protests outside were labeled “anti-semitic”. We speak with Jonah Valdez, a journalist and poet based in Los Angeles whose recent piece for the Intercept is called “LA City Council Considers Paying Former IDF Soldiers to Patrol its Streets.”
