A new investigation by ProPublica has uncovered a shadowy non-profit organization that problematically, and probably illegally, is pushing a hyper conservative right wing agenda in this country that very specifically aims to center the church in all parts of society. The group describes its membership as a “private, confidential, invitation-only community of high-net-worth Christian families” with a minimum net worth of $25 million. The organization is called Ziklag, which itself is a biblical reference. Our guest is Andy Kroll, a reporter for ProPublica covering voting, elections and other democracy issues. He is one of the reporters on this shocking story, which is titled, “Inside Ziklag, the Secret Organization of Wealthy Christians Trying to Sway the Election and Change the Country.”

Then, in Oakland, the crime is up! Or is it? A San Francisco Chronicle investigation is raising questions about how crime statistics are reported in Oakland, and claims that the statistics released by police “inevitably, and at all times, create the impression that Oakland’s crime trends — up or down — are better than reality.” The investigation is titled “Oakland has been publishing misleading crime data for years”, and it is written by our guest, breaking news and enterprise reporter for the SF Chronicle, Rachel Swan.
