LAPD doles out death and reinstates controversial chief; Plus, State Terror Roundup and a letter from San Quentin State Prison

We start this show with our usual Thursday State Terror Roundup.

Then, in the first few days of 2023, the Los Angeles Police Department murdered three people in two days: Takar Smith, Oscar Sanchez and Keenan Anderson. Takar Smith was in the middle of a mental episode when his wife called the non emergency line for help. She was not looking for law enforcement intervention. She most certainly was not looking for her husband to be murdered. Unfortunately and tragically, both of those things took place. Adding insult to injury – the Police Protective League released a statement to the Los Angeles City Council defending the actions of police officers in all three murders. Joining us to discuss is Dr Melina Abdullah, a professor at UCLA and co-founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter as well as co-founder of Black Lives Matter Grassroots. We also speak with her about the controversial recent reinstatement of LA Police Chief Michael More and the new LA Mayor Karen Bass.

Then: We encourage our brothers and sisters on the other side of the wall to write in to our show. Occasionally we read those letters on the air. Today’s letter is from San Quentin State Prison.
