Law & Disorder

Dr. Roger A. Mitchell on Death In Custody; Plus Plus Resistance in Residence Artist Cady Voge

Law & Disorder exposes the cracks in our system, agitates for resistance and collectively builds a new world where all of us thrive. Hosted by Cat Brooks. Produced by Jesse Strauss.

Untold numbers of prisoners and arrestees die while in custody, but save for the occasional news report there is no public record keeping of these deaths. Our guest today, Roger A. Mitchell Jr. MD—a professor and chair of pathology at Howard University College of Medicine argues that effective public health policy begins with mortality data. His book co-authored with Jay D. Aronson PHD, “Death In Custody: How America Ignores the Truth and What We Can Do About It,” argues that the federal government must begin to record this cause of death on death certificates.
