Commemorating Black August; Plus, Resistance in Residence Artist Donald Lacy

We spend this hour in conversation with Mama Ayanna Mashana about what it means to celebrate Black August – the history of Black rebellion, the political prisoners who the US holds hostage from the Black Liberation Movement, and the customs that we use to celebrate the month. My guest Mama Ayana is also the former partner of Baba Shaka At-Thinnin who, as a former political prisoner, co-founded the Black August Organizing Committee and the Black August movement.

This week’s Resistance in Residence Artist is actor, comedian, radio host, director, playwrite and social justice warrior, Donald Lacy.
