A new report by the UC Berkeley Labor called “The State of Working East Bay” analyzes living and working conditions among workers in the East Bay before the pandemic – from 2015-2019 – which demonstrates that many workers and their families struggled to make ends meet even before COVID hit. Joining me to discuss are Dr Savannah Hunter, a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow who studies work and inequality. She was the lead researcher for the report we’re discussing today, which follows up a 2012 report of the same name published by East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy – that’s EBASE. We’re also joined by Kate O’Hara the executive director of EBASE.

Then, we go to Sacramento, where the county Board of Supervisors are voting today on an almost billion dollar bond for jail expansion – a project organizers thought they killed in 2021. We are joined by Mack Wilson a Community Organizer with Decarcerate Sacramento, and Jael Barnes, the pre-trial justice organizer for Decarcerate Sacramento, a Community Organizer with Sacramento Act, a steering committee member for Community Health and Justice Project, and an advocate for folks trapped in the Sac County Jail.
Then, we are joined by Quincy McCoy, the former general manager of KPFA, and now Executive Director of the Bayview Opera House, the oldest existing theater in San Francisco.
This week’s Resistance in Residence Artist is actor, comedian, radio host, director, playwrite and social justice warrior, Donald Lacy.
