Earlier this week, Oakland Interim Mayor Kevin Jenkins announced the firing of former Mayor Sheng Thao’s city hall staff, starting with the canning of Leigh Hanson over an allegedly problematic note-taking issue, and followed by the rest of the staff that had been hired by Sheng Thao. Joining us is Brandon Harami, one of the staffers who was fired this week, who has also experienced homophobic threats and harassment online which lead to a legal settlement, which is disregarded as null and void now that Harami no longer works at City Hall.
Then, staying on the topic of Oakland politics, we turn our attention to what has been dubbed the ‘Oakland Astroturf Network’ and the billionaires funding Oakland’s more conservative political campaigns and recalls. Joining us to discuss are Pecolia Manigo, Executive Director of Oakland Rising Action; Jeremy Mack, the Executive Director of the Phoenix Project; and Chaney Turner, the Integrated Voter Engagement Director with Oakland Rising Action.
