Recently there have been increased reports of an escalation in immigration raids across the nation – particularly in seven states – Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Kansas, New York and California. Today we take a more personal look at the face of immigration by introducing the story of Daniel Maher, who was just 3 years-old when he first arrived in the United States. However, like many youth, struggling with self-identity, Maher’s teen years were marred with strife and rebellion. And by the age of 19, he was convicted of robbery and served five years in prison for his crime. Maher, now in his forties, has completely turned his life around and is battling to stay here under threat of deportation to China. We speak with Daniel Maher and Angela Chan an attorney with Asian Americans Advancing for Justice, The Asian Law Caucus.
