Curator Chris Cory:
“This week, we are extending the celebration of good things in the past by bringing up another of our continuing sagas – the Real Worlds Records Review. This will be our final packaging, which begins with Armenian folk singer and dudek player Djivan Gasparyan with To The River. The second artist up is Somalian composer Miryam Mursal with Lei Lei. She has a compelling personal story. Mursal fled Somalia during the civil war half a century ago to asylum at the Danish embassy in Djibouti with her five children in tow.
At mid-set we are going to Ireland for some very gentle folk music from Iarla O’Lionaird. I won’t bother trying to pronounce this song title, it is in Celtic. We close the set with a track called Pummarola Black from the Italian band Spaccanapoli, here on ABOT.”
