In the twenty-first century, does Juneteenth help heal divisions in our country

or does it serve to codify the status quo?

In the wake of hundreds of instances of Police violence setting off Black Lives Matter protests across the nation — : George Floyd, Eric Garner, Breonna Taylor — on and on. We still have a big racial divide in this country. With Independence Day coming up — we will hear many high sounding

words suggesting there is no race problem in the U.S. — nor a class problem. Who is saying those things and why?
