Hosted by Anthony Bonet, “Calling All Seekers” is a journey through sound and memory. This week we say goodbye to Steve Cropper (October 21, 1941 – December 3, 2025) — one of the architects of the “Stax Sound”, he was one of the most subtle and yet influential guitarists of all time. While you may think you don’t know his work, you are definitely familiar with the many classic soul recordings on which he appears from “Green Onions” and “(Sitting on) The Dock of the Bay” to working with Dolly Parton and Frank Black in the new millenium, he had a remarkable range.

Orpheus and Eurydice by Goos, Carl – 1826 – National Gallery of Denmark, Denmark – Public Domain.

From there we move to a contemplation on Love and Death through the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. What becomes of us when the people who bring us light and love and inspiration disappear from our world? It is, perhaps, a bitter pill but one we must all take. Comments and suggestions are always (more than) welcome. [email protected]
