Tonight’s radio drama presents "Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting." On a spring
day in 1947, Branch Rickey, the General Manager of the Brookly Dodgers,
summons heavyweight champion Joe Louis, tap star Bill "Bojangles" Robinson,
and actor Paul Robeson to a meeting in his mid-town Manhattan hotel room.
Mr. Rickey wants their support as he prepares to call Jackie Robinson up to
the Major Leagues as its first Negro ballplayer. Starring Ed Asner,
Charlie Robinson, and Carl Lumbly.
