Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – August 29, 2007

In tonight’s program, we will bring you an update on the plight of Mordechai Vanunu, an Israeli former nuclear technician who spent 18 years in prison, including more than 11 years in solitary confinement for revealing details of Israel’s nuclear weapons program to the British press in 1986. On a related topic we’ll also talk with UC Berkeley Professor and author Gray Brechin about the political economy of the bomb, which, regrettably, was invented and develepoed right here, in Berkeley.

Later in the program, we have a surprise new comer to the field of Presidential politics, with a stunning announcement which might change the course of history as we know it.

Later in the program, on the occasion of the publication of his groundbreaking new book of political cartoons, Mission Accomplished, Khalil Bendib will launch headlong into a heroic — and largely fictitious — campaign to become the 44th president of the United States of America!! The official kickoff of Mr. Bendib’s presidential bid will take place at the Mudrakers Café (corner of Telegraph and Stuart) in Berkeley at 7 PM on August 30.
