Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – August 22, 2007

In tonight’s program, we will bring you an update on Venunu Moedechi, an Israeli former nuclear technician who spent 18 years in prison, including more than 11 years in solitary confinement for revealing details of Israel’s nuclear weapons program to the British press in 1986.

Later in the program, on the occasion of the publication of his groundbreaking new book of political cartoons, Mission Accomplished, Khalil Bendib will launch headlong into a heroic — and largely fictitious — campaign to become the 44th president of the United States of America!! The official kickoff of Mr. Bendib’s presidential bid will take place at the Mudrakers Café (corner of Telegraph and Stuart) in Berkeley at 7 PM on August 30.

Also in the program tonight, we will bring you the first part of conversation between two poets, Bay Area based poet Matthew Shenoda will be in conversation with Iraqi poet and novelist, Sinn Anton who is out with a new novel entitled I’jam: an Iraqi Rahpsody. Sinan will be reading from his new novel at Moe’s Book Store in Berkeley at 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 28. He will also be reading his poems at the Mutanabbi Street Memorial Reading at the San Francisco Public Library on Sunday, August 26.
