A tribute to one of the founding fathers of modern jazz, Max Roach, will be aired this afternoon on In Your Ear. A mid-1980s interview with Roach taped by program host Art Sato will be aired along with musical selections that helped establish him as one of the most significant musicians of the 20th Century. A master percussionist and adventurous innovator, Roach was also a staunch spokesman and activist for racial equality and social justice. He refused to stand still as an artist, was constantly growing, experimenting and evolving and remained a revolutionary to the end. Max Roach passed away on August 16th at age 83.
