Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – August 15, 2007

In this week’s program, Dr. Samera Esmeir will talk with Sahar Francis, a lawyer and human rights advocate in the Occupied Territories, about the state of Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons.

Later in the program we’ll bring you a conversation with George Charbak, the director of The Epic of Gilgamesh With A Long Prologue. This play is retelling of the Mesopotamian epic story The Epic of Gilgamesh, one of earliest known literary works, composed in Babylonia more than 3,000 years ago. The Epic of Gilgamesh With A Long Prologue will start its run at the Ashby Stage in Berkeley on Thursday, August 16th. For more information please visit the Ashby Stage in Berkeley website.
