Letters to Washington

Letters to Washington – July 20, 2010

The Senate Judiciary Committee approves the nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.  We’ll hear excerpts from the debate.

Then we’ll be joined by Carolyn Lochhead of the SF Chronicle to find out the very latest on other agenda items on Capitol Hill including the war supplemental request, unemployment benefits and the soon to be expired Bush tax cuts.

As James Clapper goes before the Senate Intelligence Committee seeking confirmation as the next director of national intelligence, the Washington Post continues its expose on the nation’s intelligence system.  We’ll have analysis from former CIA operative Mel Goodman.

Finally, we’ll be in conversation with Professor Alice Kaswan of the University of San Francisco about the number of scaled down climate change bills the Senate will consider in the next two weeks.
