Sing Out – June 30, 2010

Playlist

Brooklyn’s young Afrobeat big band Zongo Junction performs live in studio on Sing Out in Bay Area debut, before a sweep through local clubs. Led by Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble alum Charlie Ferguson (who studied music in Ghana during his college years), the 14-member horns-guitars-percussion group plays original music inspired by Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat and other West African dance styles. Four members are Berkeley High grads; all met while in college in NYC.
