U.C. Berkeley History Professor Beshara Doumani will be in conversation with Sociology Professor Salim Tamari about the structural impact of the 1967 War on Palestinian life and national movement specifically, and on Arab society, identity and political culture in general. Salim Tamari is Director of Institute of Jerusalem Studies, Professor of Sociology at Birzeit University and editor of the Jerusalem Quarterly. His forthcoming book, The Sea Against Mountain: Essays on Contemporary Palestinian Urban Culture, will be published by UC Press. Salim Tamari is currently a visiting professor at the Department of History at U.C. Berkeley.

Later in the program, we will listen to the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish, one the most prominent poets of our time.
