Beginning with with Great Migration of the early 20th Century, and continuing to contemporary poets, Confronting the Warpland: Black Poets of Chicago, features interviews and readings by writers who who have made a unique and crucial contribution to African American literature, including Gwendolyn Brooks, Haki Madhubuti, Sterling Plumpp, Margaret Walker, Quraysh Ali Lansana, and Tyehimba Jess. These writers have vastly different styles and concerns, but all use poetry to examine life in a racially divisive society. Confronting the Warpland: Black Poets of Chicago, is a production of the Poetry Foundation. It was written and produced by Ed Herrmann and is narrated by Richard Steele. It was first broadcast on WBEZ Chicago Public Radio in February 2008.
