Singer Sasha Dobson performs live!

Santa Cruz-bred, New York City-based singer Sasha Dobson previews her upcoming Northern California appearances by performing live and chatting with host Derk Richardson. Dobson’s jazz-steeped approach to folk-pop may fall in the Norah Jones category (and her debut album, Modern Romance, was co-produced by Jones associates Richard Julian and Jesse Harris, and was issued by the latter’s Secret Sun Recordings label), but the New York Times has compared her airy vocal approach more to that of Brazilian Bebel Gilberto. The daughter of the beloved late San Francisco pianist Smith Dobson embraces a varied repertoire that includes songs by Julian and Harris, a Yeah Yeah Yeah’s cover (the CD’s title track) and Duke Ellington’s "Mood Indigo."
