Aurora Josephson is an avant-garde vocalist schooled in classical opera. She began opera lessons at 16 and got a degree in musical performance at Mills College in 1996. Aurora has performed with many well known artists and musicians from the bay area and around the world, including Liz Allbee, Henry Kaiser, Gino Robair, James Tenney, Pauline Oliveros, and Cheryl E. Since age 16, when she first heard the recordings of Meredith Monk, Robert Ashley and other cross-disciplinary artists, Dina Emerson has avidly pursued to integrate the separate media into performances that are at once installation, concert and theatrical event. In addition to Meredith Monk, other artists with whom Dina has worked include Tan Dun (2 world premieres), John Kelly, Nam Jun Paik, Ken Butler, David Soldier with Komar & Melamid, and various downtown theater companies including Tiny Mythic Theatre Company, Cucaracha Theatre and The Talking Band.
